Golf Solitaire

Golf Solitaire lets you clear cards by adjacent ranks. Plan long chains, manage the stock, and clear the tableau before the deck runs out.

Game Overview

Golf Solitaire turns solitaire into a quick card-clearing puzzle. Instead of building foundations or moving stacks between columns, you remove cards by placing them on a single Waste Pile. The goal is to clear all 35 tableau cards while making the most of every available move.

What Makes Golf Solitaire Different?

The main challenge comes from its simple adjacent-rank rule and limited stock. Suits and colors have no effect, so each move depends entirely on the rank of the exposed cards.

  • Adjacent Ranks: Play a card one rank above or below the Waste Pile's top card.
  • No Suit Restrictions: Any suit or color can be played as long as the rank matches.
  • King and Ace Stay Separate: A King connects only with a Queen, while an Ace connects only with a 2.
  • Single-Pass Stock: The 17-card stock can be used only once, with no redeal.

How To Play

Start with 35 face-up cards arranged across seven columns. Only the bottom card of each column is available, and removing it exposes the next card behind it.

  • Check the exposed cards before making your first move.
  • Place a card one rank higher or lower than the Waste Pile's top card.
  • Keep building chains whenever another valid card is available.
  • Clear exposed cards to reveal more choices in each column.
  • Remember that the stock cannot be dealt again.

A strong chain can move through several ranks in succession, such as 8 → 9 → 10 → J → 10 → 9 → 8 → 7. Since each move can reveal another playable card, spotting these sequences early can help you clear more of the tableau.

Tips For Better Runs

Try to expose cards from deeper parts of the columns rather than clearing easy cards without a plan. Save the stock for moments when the tableau offers no worthwhile continuation, and look for Queens that can remove exposed Kings before those cards become obstacles. Unlimited Undo also gives you room to test different sequences. Use it to compare possible chains before committing to a move that could leave fewer options.
